Where do I start?

You've been watching all of those shows on HGTV and wonder what your new kitchen or bath could look like. But where do you start the process? Not everyone has the money (and pull) to get Candice Olsen to design your new space, but there are ways to get started.

First thing you can do is to create a binder where you can place magazine pictures and web downloads. It will give any designer or contractor an idea of what kind of feel you want for your space. Go to Home Depot, Lowes, supermarket aisle, or web pages and get pictures of kitchens and baths that are what you would like to have in your house. It gives you a place to say, "I like this" or, "I don't like that."

This process might be as quick as a couple of weeks, or as long as a couple of years. The key is to give your designer a visual picture of what you are thinking about for in your remodel or new home.
